Vitamin E and Se stabilise biological membranes. Action of selenium, a glutathione peroxidase ingredient and vitamin E as natural antioxidant is based on protection of polyunsaturated fatty acids, structural components of biological membranes from destructive action of free radicals and peroxides. De ciency of vitamin E and Se leads to disruption of motor system, damage of heart muscle and skeletal muscles, causing dystrophy and myopathy. In calves and lambs dystrophisystem, damage of heart muscle and skeletal muscles, causing dystrophy and myopathy. In calves and lambs dystrophical muscle changes lead to the formation of white meat. Myocardial damage may be the cause of violent death (dead heart disease). Skeletal muscle degeneration leads to diseases such as banana disease in pigs. In poultry, de ciency of vitamin E and selenium causes softening of the brain (encephalomalacia), wet blemishes (increased permeability of blood vessels) and vitreous degeneration of muscles.
