Deficiency of vitamin E and selenium leads to disorders of the locomotor apparatus, damage to the heart muscle, skeletal muscles, causes dystrophy and myopathy. In calves and lambs, dystrophic muscle changes lead to white meat. Damage to the heart muscle can cause sudden death (dead heart disease). Skeletal muscle degeneration leads to banana disease in pigs, for example.
